Michael Joseph, CFA®

Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Portfolio Manager

Michael is a Portfolio Manager and Deputy Chief Investment Officer at SAM. His duties include sourcing investment opportunities and conducting ongoing due 
diligence across SAM’s portfolios. Michael co-manages our Income and Tactical Select strategies.

Prior to joining SAM, Michael worked with high-net-worth private clients for the largest independent wealth management firm in the United States. He was also a senior analyst for one of the largest investment-grade bond managers in America. Michael joined SAM in 2017.

Michael’s investment thinking has been featured in publications including Fortune, Advisor Perspectives, and the Stansberry Digest. He earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter in 2017.

Michael currently resides in Arizona with his wife and two children. He serves as a Board Member for Copper State Credit Union, an Advisory Board Member for the 
Arizona Council on Economic Education, and is a member of the Practice Analysis Working Body of the CFA Institute.

Rich Checkan

President and Chief Operation Officer at Asset Strategies International (ASI)

Rich Checkan is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Asset Strategies International (ASI), a Maryland-based company specializing in tangible assets to include precious metals and rare early U.S. gold and silver coins as well as rare world and ancient coins. He oversees the operations, administration, sales, and marketing departments and also serves as ASI's compliance officer.

A 1987 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Rich was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Infantry. He served tours at Fort Benning, Georgia; Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; and the Demilitarized Zone in South Korea. He left military service in 1993 at the rank of Captain.

In 1996, Rich joined ASI. The following year, alongside Michael Checkan and Glen O. Kirsch, he developed the Perth Mint Certificate Program, making ASI one of the first approved dealers authorized to sell these government-guaranteed precious metals certificates.

Rich is a regular contributor to ASI's newsletter, Information Line, as well as ASI’s twice-weekly Always Something Interesting alerts. He also speaks at conferences and seminars worldwide, sharing his expertise on precious metals and wealth protection.
